Description
This is an open discussion in the +Spaces platform, about how to make the +Spaces platform effective.
Statement
+Spaces comes to help policy makers reach their citizens and understand them better. On its very basic use, it allows to easily define a poll and automatically deploy it in multiple spaces at the same time – in Facebook, in Twitter, and even in a 3D virtual world. This way many citizens are reached, on their preferred social media. +Spaces also supports debates, in which policy makers can tap into citizens’ thoughts, ideas, and opinions; and express their own opinions at the same time. There are textual debates –in Facebook or in a blog – and there are “meetings” in a virtual world where policy makers and citizens may talk to each other and share charts and other information. Finally, to really engage citizens, +Spaces supports role-playing simulation sessions, where polls, debates and structured sessions are used for gaining new insights. For any session +Spaces provides rich and innovative visualizations that for understanding the points of view of the citizens. These days we are in the midst of the +Spaces debates pilot, launching debates about various real-life policy scenarios, and trying to attract the relevant people to take part. We publish invitations in relevant blogs, facebook groups, and online forums. We tweet invitations with relevant hashtags, and we rely on viral dissemination through facebook. But we do not seem to reach a high enough level of participation yet. We are interested in thoughts about the reasons for this, and in ideas for how to reach out to more citizens.
