Description
Both the Directive on energy efficiency and repealing Directives 2004/8/EC and 2006/32/EC and the Communication on Energy Efficiency Plan 2011 propose a series of measures in order to achieve energy efficiency. Nevertheless, there are several challenges to be tackled such as improved and more frequent information to individuals and companies regarding their energy consumption, the lack of appropriate training for those involved in building renovations, the barrier of upgrading energy performance pertaining rented property etc.
Statement
Energy efficiency belongs to the five basic objectives of the Europe 2020 strategy for a smart, sustainable and inclusive growth for business, public sector and private individuals. As mentioned in the Energy Efficiency Plan 2011, the full implementation of measures will generate financial savings to households, foster European industrial competitiveness and create a significant number of jobs, but also will reduce annual greenhouse gas emissions. Due to the economic crisis these initiatives are an imperative in order to reduce the energy consumption and manage better the existent energy resources.
